About Kriptomat

Kriptomat is a relatively young cryptocurrency exchange based in Estonia that has enjoyed growing popularity over the past year. Trading on the platform is currently restricted to Europe, so investors from, for example, the USA are not allowed to use the platform. The exchange’s slogan “Everbody deserves crypto” is virtually the agenda of the exchange.

The focus is on an easy to use and modern user interface, which allows everyone to buy and trade cryptocurrencies. Accordingly, the operation is very intuitive and uncomplicated and thus ideally suited for newcomers. In contrast to other exchanges, even beginners don’t have to search for certain functions.

In terms of professionalism, Kriptomat can convince with two licenses from the Estonian government, which wants to establish itself as one of the European hub for cryptocurrency companies. The licenses granted by the Estonian government include a license as a provider of virtual currency exchange against Fiat currencies and a license as a wallet provider. Moreover, Kriptomat is also a founding member of INATBA (International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications). Other well-known blockchain projects, like the IOTA and Cardano Foundation and Algorand, are also part of the organization.

A very positive aspect of Kriptomat is the availability of 20 languages. In addition to English, other languages available include German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Estonian, Croatian, Italian, Dutch and Turkish.

What cryptocurrencies does Kriptomat offer?

With 30 different cryptocurrencies, Kriptomat does not support the largest number. Nevertheless, the range is very well selected. In addition to the major and most popular cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple, Kriptomat also offers smaller popular cryptocurrencies, such as IOTA, Cardano or TRON. Kriptomat costs and fees

The fees and costs for deposits and withdrawals are very transparent and can be found quickly. Kriptomat charges a nominal fee for each transaction of funds from your account and for buying/selling cryptocurrencies. The calculated fees are always displayed during the creation of the purchase order. The deposit fees look like the following:

In terms of payout fees, Kriptomat has a big advantage over the competition! Unlike most other exchanges, Kriptomat does not charge a fee on the payout, but only a “network fee”, which you can see in the table below.

The payout amount must be at least 15 EUR for cryptocurrencies. The minimum trade value is 30 EUR for all trading pairs. Furthermore, the minimum for a SEPA deposit on Kriptomat is 35 EUR.

How do I set up a Kriptomat account / account?

Setting up an account at Kriptomat is very simple and intuitive, as is the use of the entire platform. First you go to the official website kriptomat.io and then click on the orange “Register” button. This will open the following pop-up window where you have to enter your first and last name, an email address and a password for the exchange. After you have confirmed your age (over 18 years) by clicking on the checkbox and the reCATCHA, the “Create Account” button will turn blue and become clickable.

Kriptomat will then send you an e-mail with a confirmation link. You will see the following message on your screen. Follow the instructions and go to your e-mail box to confirm your registration by clicking on the button in the e-mail from Kriptomat.

As soon as you have done so, you can log in to your Kriptomat account with the access data you have just assigned. Before you can see your wallet, the buy and sell options and other features of the exchange, however, you have to enter and verify your phone number. After you have entered your login data, you will see the following pop-up window:

At this point you simply enter your telephone number. Within a few seconds Kriptomat will send you an SMS containing a verification code that you have to enter on the website. Once you have done this as well, you will be taken to your personal account page. In the upper area you will see a request that you have to confirm your identity before you can start buying cryptocurrencies. To start the process, simply click on the request (in the screenshot we already passed the verification).

A new pop-up will then open in which you have to enter your address (street, house number, city, country). The next step is to upload a photo or scan of your passport or ID card. Usually this process is very cumbersome if you take a photo of the document with your smartphone and then need to transfer it to your computer.

To get around this problem, Kriptomat has come up with a very smart and straightforward solution. You can easily continue the registration process on your smartphone. Just click on the link and Kriptomat will send you an SMS with a link to continue the process.

You can then take a photo of your ID (front and back) with your smartphone and upload it immediately. The same applies to the third and final step. To verify your identity, Kriptomat asks for a selfie of you. You can grant Kriptomat access to your camera from your smartphone and directly take a selfie of yourself.

If you want to buy cryptocurrencies via SEPA bank transfer, it is also necessary to add a bank account to your Kriptomat account in the last step. You can then deposit money via SEPA and then use your “balance” to buy Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. If you use Neteller, Skrill or your credit card, this is not necessary.

Verification levels and purchase limits

Once you have completed the registration process described above, the following purchase limits will be available to you. There is no classification by different verification levels, as is the case with other crypto exchanges.

Buy cryptocurrencies on Kriptomat

Buying Bitcoin, Ethereum or another altcoin on Kriptomat is very easy and intuitive. First go to the tab “Buy” and “Sell” (step 1) and then select the “Buy” section (step 2). Here you can select the cryptocurrencies you want to buy.

Afterwards you can choose between four different payment methods (step 3). While you have to add a bank account to deposit via “Eur”, i.e. SEPA bank transfer, the other three options (credit card, Neteller, Skrill) allow you to make an immediate purchase without having to enter any further data.

In the fourth step of the screenshot you only have to enter the amount you want to buy. After clicking on “Buy Bitcoin” you will see the transaction fees for the order. To complete the purchase, you must click “Confirm transaction” or you can cancel the transaction by clicking “Cancel transaction”.

Kriptomat will then confirm the purchase and redirect you to your “My Wallet” section. Within a few seconds, or after a few minutes if the system is heavily loaded, your purchase amount will be displayed here.

How can I sell cryptocurrencies on Kriptomat?

The menu item for selling cryptocurrencies can be found under the same tab (“buy/sell”) and is very similar to the buying process. Under “Sell” you select the desired cryptocurrency and enter the amount you want to sell. Then click on “Sell Bitcoin”, whereby the sale will only become binding once you click on “Confirm transaction” in the next step.

You will then be redirected to the wallet subpage where your balance is now displayed in Euros. If you wish to withdraw the Euros to your bank account, a separate step is required. Inside the wallet, click on “Euro” and then “Payout”, which will allow you to make a payment to the bank account linked to your Kriptomat.

The Kriptomat wallet

For all cryptocurrencies you can buy on Kriptomat, the exchange also offers a digital wallet, which is integrated in your customer account. So you are not forced to set up a digital, external wallet, instead you can use your Kriptomat account. However, you have the possibility to do so. Especially for security reasons (“be your own bank”) this can be highly recommended.

To send cryptocurrencies to an external wallet, first go to the “My Wallets” section. There you will find a long list of all cryptocurrencies for which a wallet is offered. Simply select the cryptocurrency (e.g. Bitcoin) you want to send and click on it. This will open an section where you will see the “Receive” and “Send” buttons. For example, if you want to send Bitcoin to an external wallet, click “Send”.

In the dialog box that now opens, you can enter the quantity and your Bitcoin receiving address. The “Miner Fee”, i.e. the fee for the transaction within the blockchain, is also displayed.

Especially in the financial sector it is essential to have a reliable and secure partner. Licensing is a strong indication of the legitimacy of an exchange. Kriptomat has received two licenses from the Estonian government, one license as a provider of virtual currency exchange against fiat currencies and one license as a wallet provider.

Kriptomat also strives for full compliance and transparency, especially when it comes to the detection and monitoring of financial crime. For example, the exchange has taken measures to protect Kriptomat from involvement in money laundering or terrorist financing activities (implementation of a KYC procedure (KYC) for each user, a risk assessment for each user who has successfully passed the KYC and, among other things, the detection of suspicious transactions by risk category and risk level).
